Customizing Meta Tags in the V4 Plugin: Update Feature

Optimizing the metadata on your website’s pages can be a great way to get further visibility and leads for your dealership. Doing so is even easier now, with our newest update feature that allows you to customize the meta description, title tag, and H1 via the V4 plugin! Customize your metadata with text, tags, or both. Read on to learn how easy it is to customize!

How to Customize Title Tags via the V4 Plugin

Customizing the title tags for VLPs and VDPs differs slightly. To do so for your VLPs, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to WordPress
  2. Go to V4 Inventory > Meta Tags
  3. Set the toggle "Enable Title Tag VLP Override" to Yes
  4. Enter any text into the text box and add tags to create a template (NOTE: If tags are used and the corresponding filters are not selected, the title tag will default to the original settings.)

On VDPs, you can update the title tag, but must do so separately for used and new vehicles. Similarly to on VLPs you can use text, tags, or both to create a template for your title tags, with the difference being that on VDPs the tags come from the vehicle you are viewing. There are also separate toggles for new and used vehicles, with the toggle for used being “Enable Title Tag Used VDP Override” and the toggle for new being “Enable Title Tag New VDP Override.”

How to Customize Meta Descriptions via the V4 Plugin

To customize meta descriptions on VLPs, the “Enable Meta Description VLP Override” toggle on the V4 Inventory > Meta Tags needs to be toggled to Yes. With that completed, you can enter any text into the text box and add tags as you see fit! You can also pull in dynamic attributes based on the filters you select. If you’re using tags and the corresponding filters are not selected, the meta description will default to the default settings. The changes to the meta description can then be seen in the page source within meta name="description", meta name=" twitter: description",  and meta name=" og: description."

You can also customize meta descriptions separately on VDPs for new and used vehicles. Simply use text, tags, or both, to create a template for your meta descriptions like you would for VLPs. The tags will come from the vehicle you are viewing for VDPs, and similarly to the toggles for customizing title tags, the toggles for new and used vehicles for VDPs are different: the one for used is "Enable Meta Description Used VDP Override," while the toggle for new is "Enable Meta Description New VDP Override."

How to Customize H1s via the V4 Plugin

With H1 customization, you have plenty of different options to choose from. For example, you can use text and make it the H1 for all VLPs, or a specific VLP by adding a link. Further, you can use a combination of text and tags. However, you want to make certain that the tags are selected in the VLP filters (or selected within the route in Evolve) before doing so.

To update H1s in this fashion, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Meta Tags > VLP or Meta Tags > VDP
  2. Set "Enable H1 Overrides" to Yes
  3. Click Update
  4. Go to “V4 Inventory H1 Overrides” in the side panel
  5. Click “Add New”
  6. Add a title
  7. Within the text box, add your desired text, tags, or both, to build an H1 template
  8. Within Link, add the full slug of where you want this H1 to appear (NOTE: this step is not mandatory)
  9. Click “Publish”
